Dorrine J. (Zurn) Hess
Dorrine J. (Zurn) Hess went home to be with her beloved God and the most Blessed Mother Mary on Nov. 1, 2012, in Ridgecrest at the age of 73.
A rosary will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel, Ridgecrest. The funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Ridgecrest.
Dorrine was born Jan. 7, 1939, in Chippewa County, Minn., to Vincent and Luella Zurn. The family of seven along with their dog, Brownie, left Morrisin 1953 and drove to Ridgecrest in a brand-new 1953 Cadillac.
Dorrine graduated from Burroughs High School in 1957. She attended Orange Coast College and graduated with honors, on the Dean’s List.
Dorrine devoted her life to her beloved husband, Max, of 53 years and raising their four children. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends as well. Her friends nicknamed her “Hank” because of her deep voice. She always had a sense of humor. She and Max loved to attend their grandchildren’s sporting events and always attended Burroughs football, basketball and volleyball games.
Dorrine and Max began their love of travel in 1986. After her retirement from the city of Ridgecrest in 1996, they were able to travel around the world to such places as Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Canada, Israel, Hawaii, Dorrine’s home state of Minnesota and numerous other states.
Dorrine was very active in the Catholic Church. She was a charter member and past president member of the Legion of Mary, past member of St. Vincent De Paul Society, past member of the Alter Society, St. Ann Parish, past member of St. Ann Board of Directors and past member of St. Ann Outreach.
Dorrine is survived by her loving husband, John “Max” Hess; children Michael, Theresa, Vincent and Joseph (Resa); grandchildren Andrew, Jacob (Jennifer), Amber (Jeff), Kaitlin (David), Nicholai, Anthony, Allie, Austin and Annaleigh; great-grandchildren Miles LaFromboise, Malachi Hultman and Maxson Hess; sisters Patricia Harris of Ridgecrest, Diane Sturgeon of Ridgecrest, Bonnie Gregory of Windsor, Colo., and brother Kenny (Linda) Zurn of Wells, Nev.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father Vincent Zurn and mother Luella Zurn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Ann’s Church, the Alzheimers Association and/or the Cancer Society.
