The project to restore the beloved B Mountain Star gained major momentum with the donation of $10,000 last week.

Exchange Club Project Organizer George “Andy” Anderson expressed amazement at the donation, received from Toshiko Windle, a Ridgecrest resident. “Of course I thanked her profusely,” he said. As of press time, Windle could not be reached for comment.

“I told the Exchange Club when I first proposed this project that the people of this community would come up with the money to get that icon lit. I just didn’t expect one person to do so much,” said Anderson. “We have one of the most unique communities in the state of California, especially for supporting local projects.”

So far, the Exchange Club has received a total of $13,000 in donations for this project, including Windle’s generous donation.

In addition, local Boy Scout Aaron McCain is working on the project for his Eagle Scout rank. Other groups, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to help with this project. Sponsorships are available. Look for “Star Jars” around town at various businesses, or drop off donations at Desert Valley Federal Credit Union’s B Mountain Fund, Mojave Desert Bank or to Exchange Club members.

The club’s goal is to get the star repaired and lit by Thanksgiving. “It’s going to happen,” said Anderson. “It warms my heart that people here do things like this.”
