Stabbing suspect held on $500K bond

On Oct. 19, the Ridgecrest Police Department received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the USA Gas Station, located at 935 S. China Lake Blvd. The reporting party said that a Hispanic male, later identified as Victor Portillo, pulled a knife on another male and stabbed him with it. The victim sustained moderate lacerations on his hand, allegedly as a result of trying to stop the knife attack.

According to RPD reports, the victim was able to escape his vehicle, fleeing on foot from the suspect, who reportedly gave chase, could not catch the victim, returned to his truck and fled the scene. The truck was described as a gray older-model Toyota pickup truck.

Officers and detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation which led them to Portillo, located a short time later in the 700 block of East Springer Avenue.

Officer Keys took Portillo into custody without incident.

Portillo was later booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $500,000.
