Groundwater discussed Oct. 17

The public is invited to attend the Restoration Advisory Board meeting set for 4:30 p.m. today at the Indian Wells Valley Water District Office.

One of the main items to be discussed will be a semi-annual monitoring report that shows groundwater contamination along the station’s fenceline near the Main Gate. According to the report, fuel and dissolved fuel constituent contamination was present in the upper aquifer zone.

While the contamination does not present an immediate risk to human health or the environment, it is important to determine the source of contamination, said an official. The Navy plans additional sampling to help determine the source and extent of contamination.

The advisory board will discuss sites contaminated by past practices and the best cleanup method for each site.
