Kellsey Twesme remembered
Kenneth C. Curnow
The family and some 300 friends of Kellsey Bennet (Proctor) Twesme, age 32, gathered Oct. 15 at Carriage Inn to celebrate her life, cut tragically short in an auto accident Oct. 11, just one day after her third wedding anniversary.
According to her husband Joe Twesme, the friends present spoke of her “infectious smile” and said that it was evident by the volume of attendees how loved she was by those whose lives she touched.
Kellsey Twesme was born on April 24, 1980, in Spingfield, Ill. After graduation from high school she attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a B.S. degree in aeronautical and space engineering in 2002.
She then moved to Ridgecrest, where she was employed as a DOD civilian employee at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake. She married Joseph Twesme of Las Vegas, Nev., on Oct.10, 2009, after a seven-year courtship. They spent their honeymoon in Hawaii, and this was one of their most cherished trips.
Kellsey loved her dogs, Sammie and Ralphie, dearly and enjoyed evening walks in her neighborhood with them.
Kellsey was very athletic. She enjoyed coed softball and golfing with her husband. She was also an avid runner, swimmer, and bicyclist who competed successfully in many races. In 2011 she ran three Ragnar races that included a 12-member relay team running a 200- mile course. On July 28, 2012, she completed a one-half Ironman competition. She was especially proud of hiking to the summit of Mt. Whitney on September 8, 2012.
At approximately 11:40 am, Kellsey was struck by a vehicle while traveling on Jack’s Ranch road, according to reports. Emergency response personnel transported her to Ridgecrest regional hospital minutes later where she died as a result of her injuries. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating this accident and no charges have been issued at this time.
Kellsey is survived by her husband, Joe Twesme of Ridgecrest, her parents, Kevin and Carolyn Proctor, her brother, Zachary and his wife Kensie, as well as her nephew, Zachary, Jr. and niece Abigail, all of Springfield, IL. Additional services will be performed at the Butler Funeral Home in Kellsey’s hometown of Springfield, IL. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Kellsey Twesme to the Susan G.
