Johnson receives Goldwater Scholarship
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation has awarded its 2012-2013 academic scholarship to Rebecca Johnson, a 2009 Burroughs High School graduate. The Goldwater Scholarship was awarded to 282 undergraduate mathematic, science, and engineering students who were nominated by the faculties of colleges and universities nationwide. It is the premier undergraduate award of its type in these fields.
Rebecca, the daughter of Daniel and Sandra Johnson of Ridgecrest, is a senior at the University of Idaho, majoring in ecology and conservation biology. She is a University Ambassador, an Honors Program mentor and the president of the ECB Club.
She has studied abroad in Costa Rica and Ecuador and spent the last two summers at the University of Virginia’s Mountain Lake field station conducting research on population genetics. She hopes to continue her postgraduate studies in this field.Story First Published: 2012-10-03
