Jesse Lee Godett
Jesse Lee Godett passed away Sept. 18, 2012, in Tacoma, Wash., due to complications from muscular dystrophy. He was 26.
A memorial service will take place in Tacoma on Sunday, Sept. 30, at noon.
Jesse was born on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1986, in Ridgecrest, and after graduating from Burroughs High School, he met the love of his life, Heather Ely, on the Internet, of all places, and moved to Tacoma to live with her and her two girls, Alex and Genna, whom he loved as his own. He lived there for five happy years until his death.
Despite his medical issues and the short time he had on Earth, Jesse lived life to the fullest. He loved music and a good book (when he had time). He was going to college and had recently changed his major, because he’d fallen in absolute love with math.
Jesse had incredible compassion for people. When he spoke to them, he devoted the whole of his attention to that moment and that person. He listened fully and responded to their troubles with great wisdom and perception. He blossomed into a man who saw that his future could hold whatever he wished it to. He was a kind man and a natural mediator; he wanted to help people resolve their conflicts and problems.
He is survived by his mother and father, Linda Hartley and Mark Godett of Ridgecrest; grandparents Bill and Marie Ruffner of Escondido and Allen and Carmen Hartley of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and their families; family friends Helen Heck and family; and finally, by his many friends.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jesse’s name to the charity of your choice.
