CERT training classes set for Oct. 5, 6, 7
The Indian Wells Valley Community Emergency Response Team will offer CERT training Oct. 5, 6 and 7.
CERT training sessions are for individuals interested in becoming more aware of emergency and disaster preparedness issues and for those considering being more involved with their local community.
Under the direction of local emergency responders, CERT teams help provide critical support by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information and organizing other volunteers at a disaster site. Volunteers trained in CERT also offer a potential workforce for performing duties such as shelter support, crowd control and evacuation. The role of a CERT volunteer is to help others until trained emergency personnel arrive.
Training sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch each day. On Oct. 5 training will be held at the Kern McGee Center. Training on Oct. 6 and 7 will be in City Hall. The classes are free, with a $25 fee for the handbook.
The class titles include Disaster Medical Operations Part I and II, Disaster Preparedness, Terrorism, Fire, Disaster Psychology, Light Search and Rescue, Course Review, Simulation, and Final Exam.
Interested students must pre-register by Oct. 1. For more information, contact Kathy Uetz at 760-977-1297 or firstname.lastname@example.org; or Brenda Dawson at 760-384-8859 or BreDawson@live.com.Story First Published: 2012-09-26
