Campers to discuss memories
The girls who attended the Tech Trek Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Camps during this past summer will present their memories and skills learned when they speak to the American Association of University Women on Saturday, Sept. 22.
This opening meeting and luncheon of the fall season will take place at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Anglican Church Parish Hall, 200 Drummond Ave. Women who have completed at least an associate’s degree at college are invited to attend. Also presenting information to the gathering will be Judy McCarthy, director of the Women and Girls’ Fund of Kern County, located in Bakersfield.
The winner of the Ann Ruff Scholarship, presented to a woman who had to delay her college career, will be awarded at the meeting. Ann Ruff was a woman who started her nursing education and had to delay it for many years, and was then able to resume her studies. In her memory her husband has set up this scholarship for women in similar situations through AAUW, of which Mrs. Ruff was a member. For further information about the meeting, call Glenda Blackshaw, Chairman of the Tech Trek Program for AAUW, at 760-375-4182.Story First Published: 2012-09-19
