Council to meet tonight

The public is invited to attend tonight’s regular meeting of the Ridgecrest City Council, scheduled for 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers.

Discussion items include a request to possibly cancel or reschedule regular council meetings. Interim Manager Dennis Speer cites in his report a temporary scheduling conflict as the reason.

Juan Garza of California Consulting, the city’s contracted grant writer, will give a report to the council on the status of current grant applications.

Speer will also present the resolution that recommends budget adjustments to close the 2011-12 year-end budget.

Three scheduled public hearings will gather input on the formation of a tourism improvement district, an amendment to the contract between the city and county board of supervisors for the California Public Employee Retirement System, and a city ordinance to introduce trench-cutting fees.

The council will also hear the first (of two required) reading of an ordinance amending the municipal code to accommodate the nonexclusive taxi franchise application from Antonio Rubio.

The council will also make presentations to the Ridgecrest Sister City delegates and to retiring Police Dispatcher Lori Benson.

Consent calendar items include a resolution authorizing the application for a grant to fund a sobriety checkpoint and a resolution authorizing the examination of sales or transactions and use tax records.

Proceedings will be broadcast on Mediacom channels 6 and 41.
