IYK hosts scene for major motion picture

Local backdrops may play a supporting role in a major motion picture, according to unofficially confirmed speculation.

A Tuesday article in the Tehachapi News entitled “Hollywood in Tehachapi: It’s hard to keep a secret in a small town” reports a local spotting Friday of actor John Goodman, who is apparently in town to shoot scenes from “Hangover III.”

When the News Review began running the rumors to ground, reports revealed that Inyokern and Mojave airports would also host scenes with supporting castmembers. (On Tuesday parts of the airport were closed for shooting.) IYK CEO Scott Seymour declined to comment, as did many others citing a confidentiality agreement.

The Warner Bros. film is set for a May 2013 release.

Inyokern is a familiar backdrop for still and moving film shoots — particularly for automobile commercials.

If IYK is hosting a major motion picture, it would not be the first time. In the 1990s Director Ron Howard and Actor Mel Gibson also made the trek to the high desert location to shoot a scene for the movie “Ransom,” and in 2001 Vin Diesel was among the cast and crew who spent a week filming scenes for “A Man Apart.”

Information about the economic effect, if any, from the filming project will be reported as details become available.
