Richard Stark Edman
Richard Stark Edman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, was a Kern County resident for 51 years. He returned to his home in heaven on Sept. 3, 2012, after battling complications from an aortic aneurysm in the ICU at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Ridgecrest Stake Center, 1031 S. Norma St., Ridgecrest, with a viewing beginning at noon. A separate viewing will take place Friday, Sept. 14, at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel, 216 S. Norma St., from 5 to 7 p.m.
Richard was born on March 3, 1940, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to goodly parents. After graduating from high school, he attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering.
He married his high school sweetheart, Colleen Meldrum, on March 18, 1960, in the Salt Lake City, Utah, temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Richard and Colleen moved to Ridgecrest in 1961 when Richard accepted a job at the Naval Air Weapons Station, where he worked as a civil servant for more than 38 years. Richard spent his retirement years living in Wofford Heights. He loved the area and the people there.
Richard lived a full life and loved his church and his family beyond measure. He is survived by his five children Larry Edman (Maria), Susan Magorian, Paul Edman (Carole), Janet Celestine and Amy Smith (Ben); his siblings John Edman (Marsha), Gary Edman (Joann) and Sharyn Strong (Bob); and his 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Colleen and his parents Frank Edman and Eleanor (Stark) Edman.
He will truly be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
