Annabelle Martin passed away surrounded by her four sons on August 17, 2012 at her home in Ridgecrest where she had lived since 1996.
Services to honor her memory will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at 9:30 a,m. at the Trona Foursquare Church, 12315 C Street, Trona.
Annabelle was born in Galena, Kansas on Sept. 25, 1921 to Henry and Bessie (Wright) Crandall who preceded her in death, along with her brother, Harvey Crandall and sister, Irene Parker. Walter A. Martin, her husband of 69 years, also preceded her in death in 2007.
Annabelle attended Riverton School in Kansas, and moved from Galena, Kans., to California in 1941 after her first son Larry was born. After a short stay in Crumville (Ridgecrest), the family moved to Poison Canyon. Her twin sons Walter and Wallace were born in the Trona Hospital along with her youngest son Jim a few years later.
The family lived in Borosolvay for a short time before suitable housing was built in Trona, where she raised her family and lived for more than 50 years. She was active in her community and church, teaching Sunday school and Children’s Church for the Trona Foursquare Church for many years. In 1990 she moved to Lake Isabella with her husband, Walter, and six years later they moved to Ridgecrest.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her four sons, Larry Martin (Bonnie) of Ridgecrest, Wallace Martin (Betty) of Portland, Ore., Water Martin (Nancy) of Cookeville, Tenn, and Jim Martin (Judy) of Ridgecrest. Eleven grandchildren will also keep her close to heart, Danny, Tammy, Karen and Sharen (Larry), Patty and Judi (Wallace), Kevin, David and Phillip (Walter), and James and Jade (Jim), as well as 21 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Her family asks that remembrances or donations be made in her name to the Trona Foursquare Church.
