Possible scam reported in Ridgecrest

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn the community about a possible door-to-door sales scam occurring in the Ridgecrest area.

A Ridgecrest resident came into the Sheriff’s Office Monday and reported that a young woman came to her house over the weekend conducting door-to-door sales for a magazine subscription. The paperwork was in the name of “Majestic Sales LLC/ Marquis Fulfillment Agency” out of Buford, Ga. The sales person told the resident that she could pay for a magazine subscription and the magazines would be sent to the Wounded Warrior Organization.” The resident filled out the paperwork and wrote a check for $59.

After the sales person left the area, the resident looked up the company “Majestic Sales LLC / Marquis Fulfillment Agency” on the Internet and saw several articles that the company was a “Door-To-Door Fundraising Scam.”

Sergeant Michael Scott attempted to contact “Majestic Sales LLC / Marquis Fulfillment Agency” via telephone, fax and email and was unable to contact the company. This lack of response is very typical of a fraudulent business.

Sgt Michael Scott recommends that if you have been a victim of this scam to immediately contact your bank and place a stop payment on your check as well as speak to a banking official to ascertain additional steps to prevent any further fraud on their account.
