Failed arsonists sentenced to jail time

Ridgecrest residents Marcos Herrera, 30, and Daniel Gilmour, 23, have been sentenced respectively to five years and two years in jail following no-contest pleas from each according to Kern County Court records.

Herrera and Gilmour were arrested Feb. 22 following an attempt to cause a structure fire at the Sierra Sands Unified School District on Feb. 8.

The Molotov cocktail reportedly thrown by Herrera bounced off of the plexiglass window connecting the offices at the district building to the exterior, causing minor damage to the exterior of the building.
