Following the recent stabbing death of Ridgecrest resident Melvin Allen, 46, Ridgecrest police arrested a suspect, Ronald Earl Ramsey, Jr., 47, but later released him. According to RCPD Detective Ron Bell, the investigation is ongoing and actively being worked. While the district attorney’s office has declined to file charges, Bell said he is hoping to have new information for the district attorney by the end of this week.

Allen was found in the 400 block of West Felspar Avenue at 3:20 a.m. July 25, lying on the ground, having been stabbed. Ramsey was arrested at that time in connection with the attack on Allen, but was released July 27.

Allen was taken to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, where he died an hour later.

The Kern County Coroner has ruled Allen’s death a homicide.
